Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat announced that the Egyptian Parliament has authorized 10 agreements with a variety of international organizations worth more than $400 million to support agriculture, women’s empowerment, and small and medium-sized enterprises. The agreements include four deals with the US amounting to approximately $33.4 million, including a rural development arrangement and increases. The agreements will include $4 million for research and technology growth and $10 million for health sector enhancement and reinforcement. Five agreements with Spain, France , Canada and the OPEC Fund for International Development are also included in the approval.

These agreements include a $95 million loan agreement between Egypt and the OPEC Fund to help micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as a €200,000 grant deal with the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development to finance a project to build employment opportunities for women in Upper Egypt. The deals also include a contract with Canada of $8.9 million for a partnership on women’s economic empowerment.

The Parliament also accepted a EUR 225 million agreement with the African Development Bank to help infrastructure and green recovery by growing renewable energy expansion and enhancing the financial sustainability of the electricity sector to ensure greater private sector involvement in the green transition of Egypt. Minister Al-Mashat said the projects protected by these agreements meet a range of UN Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 3 for good health and well-being, Goal 4 for quality education, Goal 5 for equality between men and women, Goal 8 for decent jobs and economic growth, Goal 9 for business , innovation and infrastructure, Goal 11 for sustainable cities and communities, Goal 13 for climate action and economic growth
